The proposed Umeda Train Depot draws its architectural inspiration from the iconic artwork The Great Wave of Kanagawa, translating the powerful motion and fluidity of the wave into a contemporary transportation facility. The design is characterized by sweeping, wave-like roof forms that create a sense of movement and continuity across the entire structure, symbolizing the constant flow of trains, passengers, and urban activity. Complementing these dynamic roof elements are horizontally layered building forms that echo the rhythmic contours of rolling waves, establishing a strong visual connection between architecture and motion. The interplay of curved and linear elements conveys energy, direction, and circulation, while also reinforcing the depot’s function as a hub of transportation and connectivity.
